Volunteers Under 16

MCR welcomes off-site volunteer help. Here’s how you can support our dogs:

  • Donate pet food:
    • You can have a pet food drive in your neighborhood or school.  Start a tradition to donate pet food to your local shelter for holidays or on a regular schedule.
  • Sponsor a contest either at your school or youth group to see who can bring in the most donated items on your local shelter’s wish list.
  • Include the shelter animals in your holiday or special event:
    • For Valentine’s Day bring the animals “valentines.” Ask your shelter for a wish list and ask each child to bring an item.
    • Have a field trip to deliver the items to the shelter.
    • Plan a birthday party to include a trip to the animal shelter.  Ask guests to bring items from your shelter’s wish list.
    • Ask kids to donate pet food to the local shelter for any holiday.
  • Help raise money for the shelter:
    • Have a bake sale or set up a lemonade stand to raise money.
    • Ask art galleries to sponsor an art contest for kids.  The winning artist can present a check to the shelter.
    • Have a car wash or doggie wash.
    • Have a mini garage sale.
    • Be creative and ask for community participation in an event to help the shelter.
    • Raise money to sponsor a kennel at the shelter.
    • Have an aluminum can drive.
    • Organize a raffle.
    • Have a loose change drive - ask schools, friends and family to donate loose change.
  • Make fliers of our adoptable dogs and place them in the community.
  • Dog treat bake-off:
    • Ask family and friends to help you and have a fun bake-off making dog treats.
  • Share shelter animals on your social media pages to help them get adopted.
  • Write letters to the editor of your local newspaper or your favorite news anchor regarding the shelter or your favorite homeless pet at the shelter.
  • Create an animal club:
    • Find students or neighbors who share your passion to help animals; work together to continue to help the shelter animals.
