2021 is almost gone, what a year! We have been struggling most of the year, and we are low on resources overall: less staff, volunteers, fosters, adopters, events, and money, among other things. Due to this situation, we have fewer dogs so that we can fully support them in preparation for succeeding at their forever homes.

In addition to the unconditional support from our donors, we were able to do two main events this year that helped us keep our doors open. You stayed by our side every day and saw how we always showed the “bright side” of this year: how our dogs are progressing with time, love, and, of course, their individual training and enrichment plans. THANK YOU for being there for us and for your kind generosity — we couldn’t have done it without you!

We want to start 2022 strong, and for that we want to give 2021 the last push. Through our Holiday Campaign 2021 we aim to raise $20,000, create more awareness so we can get more volunteers and fosters, and add 100 new monthly donors to support our sustainability efforts in 2022.

We believe in our MCR community, and we know together we will be able to help more people and dogs in 2022.

Ways to Get Involved

Give Today to Help the Underdog

November 30, 2021 is Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement unleashing the power of radical generosity that started in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. MCR jumped on the wagon some years ago and now it is our third most impactful event of the year.

This year we are focusing on dogs like Levi that stay with us for longer periods of time, requiring a lot of human resources to work on their training and enrichment plans. Their progress doesn’t occur overnight, so this year we are raising funds to help more dogs like Levi.

Giving for Paws: Shelter Santa Tree

Local businesses are hosting Christmas trees and wreaths for us that are decked with ornaments featuring the adopted and current animals in our care, along with a wish list of items needed at the shelter and by our fosters.

When you see an MCR tree or wreath, simply:

  1. Take an ornament
  2. Purchase the wish list item for that dog, and
  3. Bring your gift back to the same location

We are looking for more businesses to host MCR trees or wreaths, as well as volunteers and donors. To learn more, contact us by clicking the button below.

Join the MCR Circle of Friends

Help us reach our goal of adding 100 new MCR Circle of Friends this holiday season!

MCR Circle of Friends is our monthly giving program. Donors can donate any amount you want per month ($5/month for example). You will be invited to our private Facebook group to see behind the scenes news, pictures and videos that we don’t post to all our supporters. We also have exclusive Circle of Friends swag, private events and so much more.

Become a Volunteer or Foster

We are looking for new members to join the MCR family! Available remote and on-site volunteer positions include:

  • Kennel Attendant (onsite; non-animal care): Only one hour a day! Sign up at your convenience after you go through orientation.
  • Dog Handler (onsite; involves animal care): Only one hour a day! Must sign up for a predetermined monthly shift and need to go through a more detailed orientation.
  • Fundraising Committee Member (remote): Meetings every other week. Focus on donor relationships, admin work, networking, and events.
  • Board Member (remote): Monthly meetings in addition to leading projects and events to support the organization.

We are also looking for foster families! We provide all the supplies, training and resources you need to care for your MCR foster dog. We will match a dog that fit your lifestyle so we can have a great foster experience.
