Idaho Gives 2023!

Meridian Canine Rescue will once again participate in Idaho Gives – a statewide event to raise awareness of all of the non-profit organizations in Idaho. Find out more about what we do at Meridian Canine Rescue Below

At Meridian Canine Rescue, we believe that no dog should have to walk alone. Shelters across the country are overflowing with rescued dogs, and the problem seems to have no end in sight. At MCR we are determined to find a solution and bring hope to these dogs in need.

Our mission is to create a safe environment and provide an exceptional quality of life for our dogs. We’re focusing on both ends of the leash, recognizing that our actions as dog owners are just as important as the dogs themselves in correcting behavior issues.

A few years ago, we pivoted our mission to emphasize the importance of dog behavior and the relationship between adopters and their dogs. We’ve developed a behavior program that includes a robust set of protocols tailored
to each individual dog’s unique needs. This program helps not only the dogs in our care but also the community. We provide behavioral consultations to support community members who may be struggling with their pets and are looking for resources. We also offer structured classes such as our reactivity class, that provide owners with guidance and tools to manage their dog’s situation and reduce issues in the home.

This year, we launched our EPIC program (Education Program for Inmates and Canines), which teaches handlers about canine behavior, body language, enrichment, positive reinforcement training, ethology, husbandry, behavior analysis, and more. The program provides more placement opportunities for dogs who need to be surrendered or transferred.

Recently, we also developed our Community Outreach program, which consists of low-cost and no-cost classes covering topics that many owners struggle with. These classes cover crate training, vet visit preparation, excessive barking, and more. We understand that many pet owners don’t have access to resources when behavior issues arise, and we’re committed to helping address this issue in
our community.

Our team at Meridian Canine Rescue takes the care of our dogs to a whole new level. Our furry friends receive three potty breaks, three walks, and regular training sessions every day. We believe in enriching their lives with sensory stimulation through aroma and mealtime enrichment – no more boring bowls! Our volunteers are skilled dog handlers who always put the dogs’ needs first. We’re not just another shelter – we’re a dedicated team committed to providing the best care possible for our dogs.

We understand that every dog is unique, and that’s why we offer customized housing to meet their individual needs. We carefully select walking routes with fewer distractions to prevent reactivity and use counterconditioning and
desensitization exercises to help our canine companions feel comfortable and confident. We’re committed to providing personalized, effective behavioral plans that help dogs thrive.
